Chadi Riad was one of many Barcelona youngsters to leave Camp Nou in the summer, in search of more game-time elsewhere.

The young centre-back subsequently joined Real Betis on a season-long loan deal, which had a purchase option that could be activated either at the end of the season or if he plays a certain number of matches.

As we approach 2024, Chadi has made a breakthrough into the Real Betis first team and has already met the criteria, thus allowing Real Betis to sign the player for just €3.5 million.

Barcelona, though, also hold a clause to repurchase the player for €7 million, which can be activated in the summer. It was earlier reported that Barça are interested in triggering this option, having left impressed by the player’s performances at Betis this season.

Betis-based journalist Pepe Elias has offered a fresh update on Chadi Riad’s transfer saga, suggesting that Real Betis have no knowledge of Barcelona’s intention with the player.

This comes on the back of the aforementioned report linking Barcelona with a move for Chadi Riad in the summer.

The report further mentions that Real Betis have no desire to talk about Riad’s future right now. They have postponed it until the end of the season.

The player, for his part, is currently awaiting Morocco’s final squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations. The former Barça player is expected to play a key role for the North African nation in this tournament.
